do I have to prove I love Kenya?
TerryFebruary 28, 2011 0 comments

I love Kenya, I pray for Kenya, I thank God that I was born and live in Kenya, am proud to be Kenyan. But do I have to prove this by singing all three stanzas of the National Anthem at 1p.m. today?
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against this action (though it's sort of Valentine-ish, "show love once in a blue moon"-ish). I'm thinking, on Mondays and Wednesdays I barely have enough time to grab a bite because my classes are one after the other, from 11a.m. to 5:10p.m.. How then do I stand , probably in the sweltering heat for a time I don't have?
If you see me walking hurriedly at 1pm, it's not that I don't love Kenya, I might even love her more than you do, it's just that am bila time. Had it been any other day, I'd be game.

nakupenda sana Kenya

I love KENYA, najivunia kuwa MKENYA

I told y'all HERE that am gonna make lots of goodies for mis hijos y mi esposo a lot more this year. Today I was in church all ears to the living word when I had this very strong urge to make mandazis, I couldn't wait to get home and quench the deep urge.
Luckily, av perfected the art of mandazi making so I didn't have a Cinnamon roll moment.

fully 'armed' in  my Women's Guild apron

yummy yum !!!
My family loved it, the "Muuuum, nataka ingine" from my kids is ......... out of this world! I feel great !!!

Blessed week y'all

mis ...... whatever

Wheeeeeew !! mid-semesters are over ! Had a tough tiring week but as always, all taken in stride. Today am chilling alone at home; my son went for a school trip, baby girl is in school and Mr. took Kelly to hospital.
I had this day planned out full of fun but all I want do is sleeeeeeep sleeeep and sleep.

I saw this book in the Library, interesting title don't you think ? I borrowed it  out of curiosity. From the little I have read, The author thinks feminists have lost feminism. He is of the opinion that unhappiness of women stems from devoting their twenties and thirties to career and singlehood, only to find in their late thirties and forties that husband and children have escaped them. He's entitled to his own opinion as I.C. keeps saying.
It's a heavy read though and am not in the mood for those now so I'll take a while on it.

Let me go back to my day of sleep, Oh so blissful !!

traffic situations - the compensation
TerryFebruary 22, 2011 1 comments

today's traffic made up for yesterday's traffic situation. I left the house at 7:40 am and got to the University at 7:59am and from Uni to mtaani, 4:20pm to 4:45pm. minimum time on the road.
I think 'The Secret' worked for me because while I was reversing out of the parking lot I pictured/imagined my window rolled down, the wind blowing my hair and some nice 'soul' music as I cruised home and guess what ? that's exactly what happened, Ooohh so blissful! Well, apart from the cruising part ... on Thika road, you navigate to avoid the gazillion mini-potholes. I can wait for the Chinese to complete construction though it may happen after av graduated *sob*

My class today was muy interesante y diviertido. My broadcast journalism Lecturer had a fresh haircut and was looking exceptionally sharp, all ready to start using power point for class instruction; "signs of a new start" He said.
He then went ahead to read the feedback we gave during evaluation, I must say the guy impressed me. It is encouraging and good mentorship to see a person of his stature take criticism so well and act upon our recommendations with such good spirit. Big up I.C. !!!!
we, two colleagues and I, had a very enlightening, eye-opening and motivating chat with him after class. Remember the chat I had with mi Profesora de espanol  and mi profesora de Relaciones Internacionales
??

I think it's important to have a chat with the Professors outside the class environment, it gives one the opportunity to know them as 'normal' people with dreams and expectations. You are even able to form mutual and beneficial friendships, within respectable limits ofcourse, with these learned ladies and gentlemen and the fact that one day I want to get into the job market and academia, I see them as mentors.

happy thinking day to Scouts worldwide

traffic situations

It's week 7, exam week at la universidad. I spent my entire weekend reading for today's 1:20-3:00 pm paper. gracias Adios I did coz the paper was a total WALK-OVER, yeah! and I still had to attend the other classes.

Kind request to lecturer's: please give us a break during mid-sem week !!!

to the titled issue; usually it takes me 25 minutes from home to campus in the morning and 45 minutes in the evening to get back home but today ..... Whoa x 8 !!!! a whole 2hours !! Mind you I didn't come across any incident to warrant the traffic jam.
I think the problem with Kenyan drivers is that they get into a "hurry" once they see 5 cars infront, then everybody starts wrapping  (Ooops! mother tongue influence) overlapping. I thought matatus were the worst offenders but it's seems private motorists have taken over.

You know what's even worse?? seeing jalopies and shindes jostling for space allover pedestrian paths and muddy patches. I excuse the jalopies but the shindes ......mschew!..... NO. You gotta treat your car with RESPECT, if you want it to serve you well and for long otherwise it will join that group I just forgave sooner that you can pandisha it on the side walk.

plus it's very an embarrassing, uncouth and classless behaviour, Trust me, I know ......  Last week I got pulled over and was almost arrested/charged for this bad behaviour. I felt so ashamed and unworthy of the Pajero I was driving. I told a lie that I will not repeat on this public forum to get  myself off the messy situations and promised myself not to do that again, after all, even the other motorists have places to get to.

Back to today's humongous traffic, I made the best out of all that jam ............ filing, buffing and cleaning my nails, oh, and removing the cuticles too in between driving at snail's pace. I even had enough time left to pop my pimples but that's another bad habit I dropped !!!
On the downside, I never jaza tank my car unless eeeeeeehhhh ... NEVER ! Usually i fuel enough for 2 - 3 days. I had enough fuel for today and tomorrow, to and from Campus but what is left won't even get me to Thika Road *sob* *sob* I'll just have to 'steal'  hubby's new ride  kwanza av been yearning to use it.

Thanks Henry, you motivate me even when I think my writing is lacking or this blog is let me not say that word. I do appreciate your moral support

Today I had a niiiice chat, in Spanish !!! with my International Relations lecturer.. She said I speak very good Spanish, she actually thought it's my minor and was surprised I just started on the 2nd course.
This from a lady who lived in Spain doing her Masters' and PhD, presented her thesis in Spanish and lecturers there one semester every year.

sometimes it's wrong to judge a book by it's cover. My Spanish lecturer is one of those books. Today we had a 'life' chat after class and I realized what a wonderful lady she is. May be next time I'll ask her if it's true she's a nun as people say ..........ha ha hah!

buenas noches

yeah, I know, it's been long. God please help me be a consistent blogger. av had a lot of good stuff coming my way especially on the family front.
  • mi hijastra went to high school, Mr. and I had a 'thanksgiving' lunch with family and friends on Sunday then she reported to school on Monday and settled in quite well. we all miss her now that she's in boarding.

  • mi esposo is the greatest man on earth. I always appreciate his unaware gestures of love. He's very caring, a responsible hubby and Daddy

  • mis hijos have been up and down, and all over but I enjoy it. They like to practice their music on me, am proud of them.

  • universidad is ok. surprise quizzes but I love all my classes and hanging out with mis amigas

hasta la proxima
